I am on page 224 in the Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien. They escape from many adventures. I'm almost done with it and can't wait to finish it!
They adventurers go out to look for Thorin. As they are out looking they come to a town of wood elves. The elves take all of them as prisoners, except Bilbo because he put on his magic ring! The dwarves wonder what they did wrong! Apparently, the wood elves are the same people that they saw in the woods having a feast. The elves think that the adventurers were trying to attack them! They try to explain that they just wanted food, but the elves won't believe them.
Bilbo wonders around the dungeon while he's invisible. He discovers that Thorin is being held captive as well! Bilbo has to think of a plan to get out! He also finds a stream that goes under the dungeon. The elves would put trash and old food through it. Bilbo decides that all that he needs to do is get his friends out of jail, and then they can escape through the stream!
Bilbo sneaks up to the elf on guard while he is asleep and takes the keys to get his friends out of the prison. He takes his friends out of their cells, and they go to the stream. They are barrels by the stream. Bilbo packs his friends in the barrels and they go off down the dirty water! The only problem is that Bilbo forgets to pack himself in one! He has little time because elves are coming down the hall! He jumps out into the stream and grabs on to one of the barrels! They all go down stream.
They stop and get out. They continue on their journey being tired and weak. They go for a very long time. They keep on getting closer and closer to the dreaded mountain with the dragon inside. They come to another town with other people in it. Thorin's father was killed, and he was the kind of the mountain. These are the people that were under Thorin's father's command. The dwarves in the city greet him very well! They feed the adventurers and give them rest. After a couple weeks, the adventurers go on to their destiny. The mountain.
I predict that the dragon will end up to be something totally unexpected. I think that he might be the opposite of what the dwarves and Bilbo think he(or she!) will be like. I think this because in a lot of books the villain turns out to be something different to make the reading surprised.
A question that I have about this part of the book is Why did Gandalf and the dwarves decide to take back the mountain. I think that they might of gotten bored like how i do sometimes (ok, a lot!) and they wanted an adventure. They wanted to take back what was rightfully theirs sense nobody else would.
A connection that I have for this part of the book has to do with the other dwarves that Thorin's dad used to rule. Whenever they got there, the dwarves didn't even know who Thorin was, but when they found out how he was they got really excited. This like how in a lot of movies there are "long lost sisters" and things like that. When they figure out who they really are, they get really excited.
