The Hobbit

I am on page 113 in the book The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien. Many exciting things have happened in this part of the book. Bilbo has gotten in many dangers.

Bilbo woke up from being knocked out. He looked around and saw nothing but darkness. He heard silence. He was in the dark cave and nobody was around! Bilbo stands up and tries to find a way out. As he is walking he spots a ring on the floor of the cave. He picks it up and keeps walking.

After wondering around for a long time Bilbo takes a rest. While he is resting he hears Gollum whining about losing a ring. Gollum notices Bilbo. Gollum  is a slimy creature that lives in the cave. Bilbo asks him to show him the way out, but Gollum says no! Gollum eats other creatures,  but Bilbo doesn't know that. Gollum says that he will show Bilbo the way out, if he answers some riddles. If Bilbo gets the riddles wrong, then Gollum will eat him! If Gollum gets one wrong, then he will show Bilbo the way out. They do riddles for a long time, and finally Bilbo wins! Gollum doesn't keep his promise and he starts to run at Bilbo to eat him anyway! Bilbo reaches into his pocket and pulls out the ring. Maybe there is something special about it. The ring makes Bilbo invisible!!!! Gollum runs around trying to find Bilbo. He thinks that Bilbo found a way out, so he goes to the way out! Bilbo follows him and leave and dark, dirty cave.

Bilbo wonders around to try to find out where his friends are! What if they were captured by goblins?! Bilbo wonders around and finally finds his friends! He tells his story. Now the adventurers are off again!

This part of the book is very interesting! A question that I have about his part of the story is how come Gollum was  so sad and by himself? When Bilbo saw him, he looked very lonely and was even talking to himself! I think that he might be lonely because of something that happened in the past. Maybe Gollum had something terrible happen to him in the past and now he is all by himself! A connection that I have about this part of the story is about Bilbo getting lost. After Bilbo got knocked out by falling on a rock, he didn't know where his friends were. When I was little I got kind of lost. I was in a store with my Mom, and she went to another isle. I thought that she went away, and I got afraid. I thought that she was gone forever! A couple minutes later my Mom found me and everything was okay again! I predict that Bilbo will meet Gollum again. I think this because in many other stories, one of the enemies comes back. I think that it might happen in this book, or even one of the other Lord of the Rings books. What will happen? Many things happened in this part of the book. I can't wait to see what happens next!

The Hobbit (part 3)

I am on page 100 in the book The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien. Bilbo has gotten himself into even more dangers and adventures!

The adventurers keep on walking to get to their destination, but the weather starts to get rainy and cloudy. They decide to find shelter for the night. They find a cave and go to sleep. After they fall asleep they get awakened by Bilbo screaming!

Apparently, the cave in which the adventurers decided to sleep in was already somebody else's home. The cave was a home for goblins! The goblins were taking their horses when Bilbo screamed. The goblins took Bilbo and all of the dwarves, but Gandalf escaped! The goblins took their prisoners through a secret door in the cave. How will they get back?!

The goblins tried to make one of the dwarves talk and tell them why they were there. When the dwarf wouldn't answer, the goblins tried to eat him! They got so mad that they were running around trying to eat the dwarves and Bilbo! Just in time, Gandalf  broke into the cave and saved Bilbo and the dwarves.

Gandalf, Bilbo, and all of the dwarves started running away from the burning cave and angry goblins. As the others were fighting goblins, Bilbo walked backward and fell over. He landed on a rock and got knocked out!

A question that I have about this part of this part of the story is will at the end of this book will it all turn out to be a dream? I think that it might because in a lot of stories the main character wakes up from a dream at the end. Will it happen in this story?

I predict that Bilbo will be left alone for the rest of the story. I think that this will happen because then Bilbo will learn to have more courage. Bilbo would have more courage because he would have to go through the rest of the adventure without someone to help him.

A connection that I have in this part of the book has to do with Gandalf. Gandalf always seems to turn up at the right time. This is kind of like Aslan in Narnia. Aslan always turns up when the others need him most.

The Hobbit (part 2)

I am on the page 70 in the book The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien  This book is SO good! I love it so far! Many adventurous things have happened to Bilbo Baggins.

Gandalf and the dwarves were looking at the map and talking about adventures. They were talking about a dragon that took over the dwarves' house a long time ago and know sleeps every night on the gold that was in the house. The dwarves and Gandalf are going to take down the dragon and receive the gold that is rightfully theirs.

Bilbo somehow ends up going with them. Maybe an adventure won't be so bad. The dwarves, Gandalf, and Bilbo go off the next morning on their way to defeat a dragon (hopefully!).

While the adventurers are on their quest, they realize that Gandalf is not with them. Where is he?! They don't think about it much more and keep walking. He will show up some time.

The dwarves and Bilbo are walking and see a light further off in the woods. They might have more food they thought, but what if the people (or things) in the woods aren't nice at all? The dwarves send Bilbo in to investigate. Bilbo walks up to where the light was coming from and finds that the things at the light are not the kind of things that you'd want to talk to. They are trolls! Trolls are ugly, dumb creatures that....well...eat other creatures (like dwarves and hobbits!). Bilbo thinks about turning back, but he can't go back empty handed to the dwarves! Bilbo tries to steal one of the troll's bags, but he doesn't succeed! He is caught red-handed by the trolls. Just as he is caught, the dwarves walk up and they get caught as well. Could things get any worse for the adventurers? Suddenly, Gandalf appears (he apparently wasn't with the others earlier because he wanted to see what was ahead) and makes the trolls turn to stone!

A connection that I have in this book is about Bilbo. When he sees the trolls ,instead of going back to the dwarves to safety, he stays and tries to steal the troll's bag. This is kind of like what I might do. Instead of doing what I know is safer or right, I do what is wrong.

A question that I have in this story is how come in many stories people disappear or go away right when you need them most and them show up at the least possible moment? This is like when Gandalf goes away right before he is needed most of all, but then turns up and rescues to others from the trolls. I think a lot of books are like this because it builds suspense. It makes you wonder if the hero will get there in time.

I predict that the adventurers will get caught in another bad situation. I think this because in a lot of books there are many problems and difficulties! I can't wait to see what happens next in this book!
