The Hobbit (Part 1)

I am now reading The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien, and I am on page 45 out of 315. I chose this book for many reasons. One of the reasons is that this was one of my Dad's favorite books when he was a kid. I also chose this book because of the movie coming out at Christmas.

In this book the main character is Bilbo Baggins. Bilbo is a hobbit. Hobbits are kind of like dwarves, but they don't have beards. They live in what are called Hobbit holes which are kind of like rooms dug underneath hills. Bilbo's family has never been on any adventures. They are a very peaceful family.

One day Bilbo is doing his usual things around the house when someone starts knocking on his door. Bilbo answers it and finds a wizard named Gandalf standing on his doorstep. Sense Bilbo never goes on adventures or anything of that sort or he is worried. Bilbo lets Gandalf in. They talk for awhile and then Gandalf leaves.

The next day Gandalf comes back with TONS of dwarves. They eat almost all of Bilbo's food! After they eat and sing a little they start to talk about a map. The map shows dragons and other adventurous things. Gandalf and the dwarves start to talk and they say what they are all going to go on an adventure. They expect Bilbo Baggins to go with them!

A question that I have about this book is how come Bilbo Baggins's  family doesn't go on adventures? I think that they might not go on adventures because of something in the past. I think that there might have been a relative from a long time ago that went on an adventure and died or something else bad happened.

I predict that Bilbo will decide to go on the adventure with all of the dwarves and the other creatures. I  think that this might happen because inside he really wants to go, but he keeps on remembering that he can't go on adventures. What will he decide to do?

A connection that I have with this story is about the mystical creatures. The mystical creatures in this book reminds me of the creatures in the series of Narnia. Narnia is about dwarves and other mystical creatures. The animals even talk! I think that Narnia is kind of The Hobbit.

I would recommend this book to Savannah. I would recommend this book to her because it is adventurous and exciting just like her. I think that she would love this book. It matches her personality!

The mysterious benedict society (part 7)

I have finished the book The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart. This is one of my favorite books that I have read so far. It is very, very exciting and addicting! I could not go a day without reading some of this book! :) :) :)

Kate decided to go and try to turn off the whisperer. If the whisperer was turned off then Mr. Curtain couldn't brain sweep anyone and their would be no more messages  She sneaks around and takes many risky moves. When she gets to where the whisperer is she sees that it is well guarded and there was no way of getting to the whisperer. Some of the messengers see her and she gets chased. She escapes in the nick of time! She goes back to the other children to tell them the bad news. The next day  everybody heard about Kate. They didn't know that it was her  that was sneaking around (phew!). She was safe (for now).

The children decided that if they can't turn off the whisperer, then they would have to wait for Reynie and Sticky to have their turn in the whisperer. The problem is that it's their turn on the whisperer in months. They don't have months. They have a couple days! The children decide to make all of the other messengers sick, but not them. This way, the messengers that have their turn on the whisperer would be sick so that they can't have their turn until later. It was the perfect plan. The children sneak disgusting, gross things (that would make you sick) into all of the food.

The messengers saw Milligan wondering in the fields and assumed that he was the spy. Milligan says that he was the spy, even though he isn't. He tried to protect that children!

The children's plan worked! Reynie and Sticky got to go to the waiting room early because everyone else was sick. Reynie and Sticky had to resist the whisperer as much as they could.

Kate and Constance were in their room and they got a Mores Code message. The message said that Reynie and Sticky were with Mr. Curtain. Kate and Constance had to move fast if they wanted to stop Mr. Curtain and his plan. They started to run towards the tower where the whisperer and Reynie and Sticky were. As they were running over to Reynie and Sticky, they get caught! They keep running hoping that they will make it! They almost get there when the messengers catch up and start to fight with them! Just then, Milligan shows up and gets rid of the messengers. There was something different about Milligan. He was smiling, but there was something else that Kate noticed. Milligan was her father!!!! Her father left her when she was little, and she didn't know why. It turns out that Milligan got kidnapped and brain swept! Kate now knows what happened to her father!

Kate Milligan, and Constance get up to where Reynie and Sticky were. They capture Mr. Curtain with the help of Mr. Benedict. Everything is fixed! The children's work was done!!!!!!!!

The children and everybody else gets back home and eats a BIG dinner. Mr. Benedict brings out a birthday cake and gives it to Constance. The next day was her birthday! Reynie, Kate, and Sticky look at the cake and see that there are only three candles on it. They figure out that Constance is actually two years old and is turning three!

Reynie is adopted by Miss. Perumal. Constance is adopted by Mr. Benedict. Kate know has a father again. Everything turns out okay! The children's mission is complete! (until they get another one!)

I have many questions about this story. One of them is what happened to Mr. Curtain? This book never really explains what happens to him. All that this book says is that the government was looking for him. I  hope that he gets caught! :)

A connection that I have with this story is about how Kate finds out that Milligan is her father. This is kind of like how in Star Wars Luke Skywalker finds out that Darth Vader is his father! Luke had no idea that Darth Vader was his father. This is like how Kate didn't know that Milligan was her father!

I predict that Mr. Curtain will end up to become a good person. I think this because in a lot of books the bad person turns out to become good in the end.

I very much enjoyed this book. I think that Trenton Lee Stewart (the author) did a fantastic job writing this book. I think that he did a good job making the book very suspenseful. He makes me want to NEVER stop reading it!!! The only thing that I didn't like about this book is that it ends! I could keep reading this book forever. My favorite part of this book in the beginning when the children think that Mr. Curtain and Mr. Benedict are the same person! This is my favorite part because it made me start to wonder if the children had been tricked! The main character in this book is Reynie. If he were a real person, I would probably be friends with him! I would be friends with him because he always knows what to do! I could always ask his advice, and  he would tell me a great answer.

The Mysterious Benedict Society (part 6)

I am on page 367 out of 485 pages in the book The Mysterious Benedict Society. Reynie, Constance, Kate, and Sticky have found out pretty much everything about what Mr. Curtain was up to.

The children have gotten into the secret cave. They were walking around when they came to the last door in the cave. This door needed a code to get in. The children saw a note above the door. The note had a message on it, and the children had to figure out what it meant. Hidden inside the note there was the code to get in the door. They went into the room and hide seconds before Mr. Curtain drove in sitting in his wheelchair(phew!). The children hid until he left.

While Mr. Curtain was looking at papers on his desk the children were hidden inside of a wooden crate. After Mr. Curtain left the room the children got out of their hiding place. They sent Constance to be the lookout while the other children looked around. They saw some papers on Mr. Curtain's desk. The papers were very mysterious. They were newspaper articles for the future. Why were they for the future? The children read the articles. The articles said that there was a disease going around, and they also said things about how Mr. Curtain will always keep you safe.

The children find out that Mr. Curtain's plan is to brainwash all of the messengers and some of the students! This means that the children will be brainwashed if they don't think of something and fast

When the children send a message to Mr. Benedict they see someone outside. Did that person see them sending messages?! The children look more closely and see that the person standing there is Milligan! They run out to where he was standing. Milligan says that there mission is complete and that they have to go back now. Kate asks Milligan if Mr. Benedict will be able to stop Mr. Curtain. Milligan hesitates and then says that there is no way to stop Mr. Curtain and they need to get to safety. The children say that they have to stay. They can't let all of the people get brainwashed! Milligan says okay. The children are staying at the school for a little bit longer.

I question that I have is why is Mr. Curtain going to brainwash the students? I think that he might want to brainwash the students so that they can't tell anybody else about the school or what they were learning there. If the students did tell other people about the school, then they might not trust him anymore.

A connection that I have in this story is about Constance. She often feels left out. Sometimes I feel left out when my three older brothers are watching movies that I can't watch or staying up really late. This is kind of how Constance  felt with Reynie, Kate, and Sticky.

I predict that Mr. Curtain will find out about the children. I think this because a lot of the time in mystery books the characters get caught. Will it happen in this story?

In this book there are static and dynamic characters. Static characters are characters who have little or no inner change. Dynamic characters are characters that do have inner change. Constance is a dynamic character. She has changed. In the beginning of the story Constance is very stuck-up and didn't lesson. Now, she lessons a lot more then she used to and is nice(most of the time:-)). Kate is a static character. She doesn't change(or hasn't so far). She has always been nice and energetic. She never gives up.
